Hi,
I’m currently sampling some Shruthi sounds to use with my Raspberry Pi sampler (see this thread).
Is there a fool-proof method for getting loop points right? I’m finding the zero-crossing points, but still seem to be ending up with pops and clicks.
Any tips for technique or software to use are welcome. I’d also be interested to know how people got around this back in the hardware days?
Following the same design as the one on the Ambika Manual, I’m releasing a .pdf Manual for the amazing Shruthi.
I don’t know if there’s anything wrong inside the file, so please, if you see anything unusual or wrong, just contact me… I’ll update as soon as possible.
Tell me what you guys think about it. I hope you enjoy it!
Nothing else than the arpeggiator comes through and even that sounds so far the noise threshold is louder…
I’ve plugged it in my amp & straight to headphones… no luck.
I was so happy when the arpeggiator started beating I thought I got ahold of it but textureland is still closed to public performances.
In a youtube video posted by WDMusicStudio as of Jan 2013, the demonstrator holds down S1 to trigger texture sound…
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh5VSLmyU4s
How is this possible?
Even when I plug my midi keyboard, only the distant arpeggiator gets through…
I recall using this synth several months ago for analog filtering with in>bubbles & in>bleeps and it worked well… Now even the analog filtering is not responding…
Any idea? I am kind of sad not knowing what to do now… I’ve been reading blogs & checking videos and nothing really answers to it so, final blow, forum post!
I feel the VCA is just not blowing enough (or blew up)... I feel I can get some sound (mainly because of the arpeggiator) but so soft. Did I forget to tune this? My LED screen is nicely lit but what about the other variable pot sitting in the bottom left analog circuit…
Much thanks for any help of sorts…

Hi all
just like the title says , can I do this with my shruthi? and if so, how?
Hey guys, really sorry if this is a common or silly question, this is my first post to the forum. I recently purchased a pre built Shruthi-1, and when sequencing it, either from Ableton or with a Beatstep pro, It doesn’t respond to every note in any given octave. It’ll produce the same pitch for several different notes, and then jump to a much higher note eventually or just do unpredictable things. Am I missing something in the midi or scale settings or is my Shruthi not well? I’d love to get it up and running properly so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
Hi,
I’ve just bought a soldered Shruthi-1 SMR4 mkII to someone who supposedly soldered it pretty well since he’s doing this as a professional activity.
Since i’m very new to the hardware stuff, i don’t own any midi interface or keyboard, so i tried the Shruthi by plugging it to my speakers only.
The only jack i managed to find is a stereo one, but i don’t think it’s such an issue in this case.
Once i power on the Shruthi, everything in the menu seems ok, even though i don’t see very clearly in it yet, but whatever i’m doing,
absolutely no sounds comes out of it.
twiddling the knobs while on osc/mix or arp produces absolutely no sounds, and so is browsing through the patches…
Would someone be kind enough to enlight me in this obscure situation ?
Many thanks !
A total noob.
Hi. I can’t get polivoks filter board self-oscillating with following settings: osc1 and osc2 set to none, cutoff 64, reso 63, env and lfo 0.
I know, it doesn’t require v/oct tuning. Apart from this it is working ok and sounds perfect. Is lack of self-oscillation in polivoks filter normal behaviour?
FutureSoundSystems posted a new max4live editor havent tried it yet but it has a nice clean interface.
I have a YM board and components here that I am about to build. From what I’ve seen from the manual, it seems that the PT2399 delay is not syncable to anything. Is that correct? Would it be very hard to modify it to be so?
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question (and it probably is), but this is driving me crazy.
I’d like to use my Shruthi as a filter for external signals. The manual states that this signal goes through the VCA, so the envelope controlling that needs to be triggered by MIDI or sequencer. But there are those “in>xxx” patches that just route the signal through the filter. How do those patches open the VCA? I think I’ve looked at every single parameter therein but haven’t found the secret ingredient — it’s not the arpeggiator, and it’s not the sequencer, and it sure isn’t MIDI. Can someone please enlighten me?
I was wondering if anybody has some sysex patches that will take the external sounds for filtering?
I’m finally starting to do some programming with my Shruthi-1 Mission. I’m getting great percussion sounds. Everything has fast attacks, very snappy, nice. My favorite trick so far is to use oscillator aliasing to create Roland-esque analog hihats. With the two ocsillators aliasing, adding another tone with the sub osc, another with filter resonance, and little dash of noise, it’s a nice cymbal-esque blend. I have two snares that I’d probably like to sample and stack, and a nice kick. I’ll try to figure out hand claps next.
Hi.
Just recently wanted to jump into the hardware world, so i don’t have any experience of it.
I don’t use a daw yet, and i don’t have an external midi card.
I’m currently trying to sync my Shruthi 1 (probably 0.76 firmware) with a Roland MC-303.
I adjusted the Shruthi as follows
Tun chn mid
0 0 off
and the MC303 as internal clock. I read somewhere that the MC303 is not the easiest/more practical device for midi out so maybe it tells us something.
but the shruthi doesn’t receive anything.
I’m probably missing something here, and maybe my explanations are not clear enough, but if you have any idea as to how i could settle this, please let me know !
Mea Culpa : i’ve only read bites of both manuals.
Thanks a lot.
A long time ago I convinced myself that I was going to charge some amount of money for working on this editor. I have since realized that the user-base is small and setting up a licencing and payment system would be more frustrating then rewarding. So it seems the best thing to do is just release it for free.
This beta doesn’t really change anything. I have only removed the expiration date and bumped the version of Max.

Enjoy!
A simple inquiry:
I have a dual SVF Shruthi on the way, and am very excited. I typically prefer synths with two filters, and I love the SVF tone, so this checks all my boxes. If I wanted to use both SVF filters as a low pass filter with a 24db filter, would I use the coupling or serial filter setting? With coupling it would be nice since filter 2 would follow filter 1, but I could deal with the inconvenience of setting up both in the serial routing.
Mainly just worried I will disappear into a wormhole with all the coupling filter options, and never actually write music because I obsess over the tone too much D:
Curious what people think of the Tubeohm filters for the Shruthi. I can tell from videos and written descriptions pretty well what the diff Mutable filters sound like, but I’m curious what the sense people have on the Tubeohm filters. I’m thinking of picking up an SMR4 to complement my Ambika 4p, but curious how diff the Tubeohm filters are, and if perhaps it makes sense to get one of those as well. I know the SMR4 is more Rolandish (syrupy resonance) and the Ladder is more Moogish (cleaner and purer, closer to the 4p perhaps?), but beyond that I’m not sure what the diff sounds like in my head, and Parker-Steiner I know is the Minibrute filter but not sure beyond that. Difficult to find demos and comparisons, though maybe I’m looking in the wrong places? Any comparisons out there? I’m not really interested in imitating analog, but rather, that hybrid line between analog and digital that only these sorts of synths can do. Thanks for any input!
Hi,
Is it easy to sync Shruthi midi to volca beats midi? I’d like to have them synced so that rhythm from beats is synced and timing the Shruthi arpeggiator or sequencer.
Peace
So I got my shruthi a while a go, DIYed it and it worked like a charm. I used a 12 volt adapter. (i’m quite a noob btw) but yeah, it worked. Including the filterboard, and diffrent filter modes. Now I used it in the studio yesterday and sometimes all of the sudden it started making weird noises. It wasn’t a cable or anything and if I put one hand on the back of the synth it stopped doing that. First I thought it might had anything to do with a static electricity; is that possible? Also I notice now that the filtermodes/resonance don’t work like they should do anymore. there’s only a highpass filter working, when i change filtermodes or flavours nothing changes in the sound. Could the filterboard be damaged or something?
Thnx in advance
Hey folks, I’m trying to shrink down my live rig. It feels like for the minimal techno stuff having a 16 step sequencer that is manipulated live is totally sufficient. However I am always fighting with the sequencer to get it started. I have it set to external sync and it is receiving MIDI clock from my sonic potions LXR. However I feel like I have to constantly switch the shruthi mode and MIDI transmit filter settings on the LXR to get the shruthi seq to free-run. After reading some posts on this forum I think what is happening is that I am getting the LXR to send a note on message and then changing the filter settings before the note off is received in order to sustain a note going into the shruthi.
This is not a satisfying way to solve this problem at all. Am I missing an obvious way that I can get the internal shruthi sequencer to free-run with no external gear? Seems like a lack of such an option is pretty crippling, even if the sequencer is meant to be played in conjunction with a MIDI controller. I have gotten some pretty compelling results by just using the sequencer on it’s own.
Thanks for answering my possibly noobish question. I am still getting used to the shruthi and memorizing where all of the menu options are etc.
